I had actually discovered this tragety earlier, and had the same questions. The person who bought the board had decided that it wasn't the wise business decision that he thought it was. Therefore, he turned it into a link for Playful Plush toys. I have been wanting to tell you guys about this for a few weeks, but I haven't been able to find the right words for it. I also PMed the other Admins (who are members here) and I have discussed my feelings about this happening. As I said, I couldn't find the right words to discribe how I felt about this happening, and for that I appologise. The good thing though is that we are all here, so at least we have that. As soon as it sold to Randy, it died. Crista, Sue and I tried to fix it back up but nobody was interested in posting on a board that was corporate owned. Several things would have really made the board a success, but they were not things the admin's could do. It needed to be linked from Playful Plush and re-arranged to provide discussion regarding their products and have a staff member of Playful Plush actively looking in on the board at least once a day to address consumer concerns. Unfortunately Randy couldn't link the board to his site (I'd asked several times about this). But what it boils down to is that after it sold, only a handful of people even went there anymore and even fewer people posted. |

Well phooey. I suppose that's that then. Is there any sort of backups or archives saved that we could sort through? (like for interviews or RP's and such) This REALLY brings tears to my eyes as TMB was the place that warmly accepted me into the Care Bear Community. All I can do is to make double-sure that this board never goes away!!! |

I can't do this all on my own...I'm no Superman!

Honestly I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. As Sarah mentioned, the moment Randy bought the board, it died. I know I left and rarely ever returned. The Care Bear Community is not owned by a corporation, it lives because of the members! You can't take that away from us and when people try, they fail. *I moved this topic to the correct forum* |

The admins of the Memories Board and I worked very hard to get as many old Memories Board members over here and over to the Forest of Feelings. We felt it a high priority to keep our community alive and thriving with it's members. R.I.P. to The Memories Board. Teacher Bear

It is definitely sad to see it go. I never posted a lot there, I mostly did a lot of lurking and reading the fanfics (much as I do here). There were a lot of great people on TMB and I'm glad that between here and FoF we've managed to keep the majority of members together as a community. I'm 97% sure Randy deleted the entire thing from his server. You can assess some of the old pages from: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://memoriesboard.net |

There's no need to fear- this board will be here for a good long time to come. I left the community once before- a mistake I wish I had never made and one I will not repeat. In the event something were to happen to me, I have already assured thetotsbox that I would want the board to continue, and as the co-admin here I have confidence she'd honor that wish to the best of her ability. I have mixed emotions about the closing of The Memories Board. I have some good memories (bad pun, I know) of that board as well as some bad ones. It was a good board in its day. Unfortunately, as previously stated, its day passed a long time ago, and I think it was for the best that it finally shut down. I cringe that the interviews and RPGs were not archived (but I look back, and none from The Caring Board were saved either) but there's nothing that can be done about it now.

Let me give you folks a little bit of insight on this. Randy had been watching the forum for a few weeks after watching other forums pop up. He thought it would be wise to buyin to the board craze after a sucessful affiliation program with the forum. He also put in bids to my knowedge to a few other forums. But since the majority of his bussiness came from TMB he put in an offer for the domain and forum instead of just the domains. He wanted TMB to be his new home board. And at that time things were not going so well. Sure we had a few people posting but at that time neither I or other people had the time to take control of the forum. It was alot of work de-spamming the forums and IP checking and doing all of the other backend server stuff so much to the point where my career was starting to take off and I did not have the time to dedicate to it. (For people that don't know me I do not do something unless I can commit to it 100%) So at that time other forums were popping up and more people were flocking to other places I decided that it was the right time to close up the forum. It was not an easy decision to do and it should have gone a lot smoother but Randy of course did not know what he was getting into. As part of the agreement he said he would take the domain and forums off of my server and bring them over to his. (Thus why a smooth transition)This never happened and why things went sour. He was supposed to transfer a backupfile to his server and unpack it and things would be normal. No forums would be removed and the only difference would be a banner ad more annoying. So I had worked it out so that no one would really notice the difference. Sadly that ended up not being the case. Some people will remember that I hosted 3 websites on the server as well (including a photobucket like server). But after the sale of the forum they persued other hosting oppertunities so at that point the server was not needed so I let the contract with my hosting company expire a few months later. When the contract expired so did the forum, picture server and all of the backend pieces that power the forum including the graphics on the forum. And because he is even smarter he had "accidently" removed me as an admin so I had no power to restore anything. Thats when the forum went downhill because few people had access to delete posts or remove members. In essance the forum out lived its self and I've told many people how shocked I was that it was even accessable for as long as it has been. I was sad to see it go but the fact was I was paying top dollar for the hosting, chatroom, bandwith, storage, topsites ect and like I said it was the right time to let it go. Unfortinunatly I recently had a hard drive faliure and the last backup I made which was right after it was sold was lost. I have bits and pieces (some graphics and uploaded files) But the rest is gone. Hope this gives people alittle insight as to what and why. Close topic lock the gate and lets move forward
