A maverick is something in between "fake" and "real". That bear is an actual Care Bear body--Wish Bear, to be exact--but that belly badge does not correspond to any actual Care Bear. There's no official Care Bear that is blue with a rose symbol. The closest "real" Care Bear to that would be the gray Grams Bear. Mavericks can be pretty sought after, though, and I'm sure there are more out there that we haven't seen before. This is the first maverick like this that I've seen, first one using a Wish Bear body, even. I think it would be a nice addition to your collection

I would still keep it. I would love to have a Care Bear like that. t seems the closest tummy symbol that would match to it's tummy sybol is either Grams Bear or Polite Panda. http://image16.webshots.com/16/3/33/81/195833381mMnYrj_fs.jpg http://home.cogeco.ca/~magic.star2/Pandas.jpg http://www.mattis-cairns.com/Collections/Care%20Bears/Images/Beanies/perfect%20panda.jpg

"Not every lost soul is a lost cause." -Bizenghast series Number of Care Bear Quizes taken: 5 Results: 1) Environmental Grumpy Bear 2) Wish Bear 3) Good Luck Bear 4) Bedtime Bear 5) Tenderheart Bear "Being in a cartoon is so much fun." Apparently, Beastly is aware he is not real is and he just broke the 4th wall by stating he is in a cartoon. This quote comes from the Nelvana episode "Hearts at Sea". <- This is my custom, Kawaii Bear. It's tummy symbol is Japanese for Japan. | |

I'm in agreement with PeppermintFizz on this one...I'd say a Maverick. It is very easy for someone to switch out the tummy symbols of a Care Bear to make a maverick, so caution is always warranted. On some occassions (on the older 80's bears) you can spot the original outline on the tummy from where the correct tummy symbol was. That's typically a hint that it's been altered, so ask for close up pictures of the tummy symbol whenever possible. There were many *blank* bears sold at the end of the CB's first cycle and when Kenner folded up shop. So it's not unusual to see mavericks. I think this one is very lovely! Quite a nice find! You should come introduce yourself as you seem to be a fellow collector: http://swiftheartrabbit.net/forum/28456/ Also, I removed the other 2 posts you made regarding this exact topic. Only one post is necessary, especially since all 3 posts were identical. Here on SHRH, you will be answered no matter what forum you ask your question. Posting the same question more then once will not get a faster answer. |

I agree with Peppermint Fizz and Jenn, it looks like someone played switch-er-roo with Wish Bear's tummy symbol and made their own! however, it is a nice edition to anyone's collection =D |

Actually (to clearify), I was suggesting that this was made with a blank body - that is how Mavericks are made. Some classify factor errors as Mavericks as well. I consider *switches* to be fakes. |

If you buy a Maverick from a collector, Does it mean it's real? |

Not necessarily. Even collectors can be fooled, or maybe they could buy it just because it's cute and not due to value. |

I agree with this absolutely! I am a collector and I have a *superman* Care Bear in my collection that was customized. It is not a Maverick, but it holds great value to me. |
